Pregnant and Don’t Want to Be?

Here are Your Options…

You’ve just found out the news – you’re pregnant. Your heart is racing, your hands are shaking and you feel nauseous. While some people might consider this the best news ever, your reaction is closer to panic.
There is so much to consider and your mind is working overtime filtering all the ‘what ifs’. It’s a lot to take in. There’s only one thing you’re sure of right now…
This is bad timing.
Maybe you’ve always wanted a baby, but life is crazy right now. You might be in the middle of studying your degree, finishing High School, settling into a career, or still finding your feet in a new relationship. Perhaps you’re a new immigrant and figuring out how this new world works. Or stuck in a relationship with somebody who you know won’t support you.

Whatever your situation, the first thing you need to know is there are options available to you. This post will go through those options so you can decide which is the best choice for you.

Before we start, please know that you are not alone. Unplanned pregnancy is far more common than you might think. In fact, it’s estimated around 50% of all pregnancies in Australia are unplanned.

As you read this, take a deep breath and remember that nobody can force you to choose something you’re not comfortable with.

Here are the choices available to you:

1.   Abortion

In every state in Australia, abortion is considered legal. But each state has different laws about when you can end a pregnancy.

A home pregnancy test isn’t always accurate, so you’ll need to have a doctor confirm your pregnancy with a blood test. An ultrasound will confirm how far along you are. From there, you can find out which abortion procedure is available.

Like any medical procedure, there are risks involved in an abortion. It’s important that you first speak to somebody who can explain these risks and outline what’s involved. At Diamond Women’s Support, we provide information and guidance about abortions so you can be empowered to make an informed decision.

You don’t need to do this alone.

2.   Adoption

If you’re not ready to be a parent but don’t want to have an abortion, adoption is another option to consider. Today’s adoption process offers you many choices including:

·     How involved you would like to be in your child’s life

·     Whether or not you remain anonymous

·     Which adoptive parents you will choose for your child.

There are many wonderful people who dream of having a child but are unable to for different reasons. Giving your child the gift of loving parents can be a selfless and courageous choice. If you’d like to explore this, we’ll connect you with adoption consultants who provide support every step of the way.

3.   Parenting

The idea of bringing a baby into the world can be overwhelming at first. You may know that you don’t want to have an abortion or consider adoption, but you’re scared about the responsibility of parenting.

We hear you!

Choosing to parent your child is a big decision. Many of the women we’ve supported have faced some big challenges when they came to us and have gone on to become amazing mums.
