If you’re concerned that you might be pregnant, you’re probably wondering how you can know for sure. Unfortunately, there is no singular symptom that guarantees you are pregnant, but a combination of symptoms could give a positive indication.

Common Early Pregnancy Symptoms

A Missed Period

A missed period is a common early symptom of pregnancy, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you are pregnant. By itself, a missed period could be the result of your birth control method or a number of other factors. However, combined with any of the below symptoms, it could suggest pregnancy.

Breast Soreness or Tenderness

Breast soreness, tenderness, or sensitivity is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy for many women. This can occur as early as one to two weeks after conception.

Food Cravings or Aversions

Aversions to some foods and cravings for others can begin very early on in pregnancy. It’s common to find foods you usually dislike and to crave foods you otherwise wouldn’t like. A sensitivity to smell might be caused by hormonal changes experienced during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, there are a number of hormonal changes that are made very quickly in the body, and those changes often cause fatigue. For many women, exhaustion is one of the first symptoms of pregnancy.

Other Reported Early Signs of Pregnancy Include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Lightheadedness or passing out
  • Backaches
  • Darkening of the nipples
  • Headaches
  • Nasal congestion
