I wanted to abort. How my sister's story changed me.
A lunch with a former client became an opportunity to help her sister. This is her story of unplanned pregnancy.

Two. Pink. Lines.
Positively pregnant. Not-so-positively sure of what to do.
This is Lacey’s story.
In the middle of last year, I had lunch with Maya, a client from ten years ago. You can read Maya’s story here. Our lunch ended with a spontaneous FaceTime call to someone special in Maya's life. Lacey, Maya's younger sister, was facing her own unplanned pregnancy.
In Lacey’s own words, “I was really torn. Pregnancy wasn’t on the cards for us. My partner loved the idea of keeping the baby. I was really overwhelmed and unprepared at the idea of becoming a mother. I was leaning toward abortion but I was also conflicted. When Maya video called me with Jen, everything felt a little bit clearer. I still had no idea on what decision to make, but I now knew our next step.”
In the midst of the noise and chaos that our clients often feel in making a big life decision, we like to simplify things. Rather than focusing on a big, life changing decision, we focus on the next step: Options Counselling. At Diamond Women, we believe an educated woman is an empowered woman; armed with information on her choices and supported in her journey, we create a safe space for women to unpack thoughts, fears, past experiences and future dreams with a professional counsellor or social worker.
You can’t begin to imagine the joy I feel when a former client refers us to a loved one. It speaks volumes to the relationships and trust our team aims to build with clients. We truly feel part of a village. This is the joy I felt when Maya called Lacey. That nine years later, Maya still feels connected enough to Diamond Women to reach out for a social lunch. That in that very same lunch, Maya is empowered to help someone special in her world.
So, let’s fast forward to the latest news for Lacey!
I’m here writing this while Lacey is texting me THE. MOST.ADORABLE. photos of her scrumptious Sonny Boy.
Straight from Lacey (and shared with her permission): "A big thank you to you guys for all the support through the pregnancy. I definitely wouldn't have got this far without the help from you guys."
Not only was she grateful for our support, but also the beautiful Christmas hamper provided by one of our local community partners. Filled with staple groceries, Christmas treats, vouchers and gifts for Sonny's older siblings, our client is very grateful for the ongoing support provided by this local church - and so are we!
